Instructor Frequently Asked Questions
We are thrilled about your potential interest in instructing with us! Our proposal form is flexible to accommodate your preferences as an instructor, including the class structure and payment options. We invite you to share your vision with us! Below are some questions frequently asked by other prospective instructors before submitting their proposals. If you need further assistance, please reach out through our contact form or email us at info@lostartsfolkschool.org.
What is the pay schedule for instructors?
Given the diversity of classes offered and their varying lengths, we do not adhere to a standard pay schedule. Instead, while completing the proposal form, you will indicate your desired compensation for course preparation and teaching, specifying whether you prefer a payment structure based on hourly, daily, per student, or another arrangement, along with your proposed rate. We highly value our instructors and supporting artists and are committed to ensuring fair compensation. After completing your instruction, you have 30 days to submit an invoice for your instructional time and any materials purchased independently.
How do you schedule classes?
Classes will be scheduled throughout the year, accommodating both weekday and weekend availability. The duration of each class will vary based on the instructor and the specific curriculum. For the year 2025, we are focusing on three distinct class lengths: half-day classes of 4 hours, full-day classes ranging from 7 to 8 hours, and 2-day classes lasting 14 to 16 hours.
When you complete the proposal form, there will be a section where you can suggest your preferred schedule. You have the flexibility to specify the day of the week, preferred times, or even particular dates that would work best for your class. This information will help us effectively plan our offerings and ensure they align with both instructor and participant availability.
How is material ordering handled and reimbursed?
Materials ordering and reimbursement processes are designed to streamline your experience while teaching at Lost Arts Folk School.
For most classes, we prefer to handle the ordering of materials. If you're open to this arrangement, please indicate your preference on the proposal form. In cases where instructors prefer to order their own materials or already have them, please specify this on the proposal form as well.
If we are ordering materials for you, we require detailed information about what to order, including links to specific items, to be included in the proposal form or this information should be sent to us before your contract is signed.
In instances where you choose to purchase or supply materials independently, we need to know the total cost of these materials prior to signing the instructor contract. You can communicate this total on the proposal form, specifying the cost per individual or for a full class.
To receive reimbursement for material costs, you may include these expenses on the same invoice submitted for your instructor fee. This approach simplifies the reimbursement process and ensures that all costs are documented together.
Do I need to take care of my own marketing?
No, you do not need to handle your own marketing. Lost Arts Folk School will manage all marketing and registration for any class you instruct with us. Once your classes are set up, we will provide you with links to the social media events and your class registration page for you to share at your convenience.
What is your minimum student age requirement?
Currently the Lost Arts Folk School is only open to adults 18 and up. In the future we may offer classes specific to children and young adults.
How is the student minimum and/or maximum determined?
There are many factors that determine the appropriate minimum or maximum number of students per class. On the proposal form you will specify to us your preferred minimum and /or maximum number of students in your class.
Will there be anyone available to assist me during the class?
Yes, there will be a member of our board and/or a volunteer present during your class. They are happy to assist you as needed. If you think you need more than one person to assist or have a specific skill request just let us know!
