Build your Own Sälgflöjt (Overtone Flute)

  • Lessons From the Art 189 North Main Street Iola, WI, 54945 United States (map)

Discover the ancient craft of instrument making and create a piece of musical history with your own hands. In this hands-on workshop, instructor Eric Bestul will guide you through the fascinating process of transforming a simple length of PVC and wood doweling into a beautiful and playable Sälgflöjt, or Swedish overtone flute.

You'll learn the techniques of measuring, carefully cutting, and carving the PVC and wood doweling to precisely form the instrument. As you work, you'll gain an appreciation for the traditional art of flute making and the unique sound of this rustic instrument. By the end of the class, you won’t just have a flute; you’ll have a tangible piece of craftsmanship and the ability to bring your own music to life.
